Santa Ana Extends Win Streak to Eight Games
SANTA ANA, CA -
Santa Ana College (SAC) kicked off the first of three non-conference games with a 15-1 offensive onslaught against Grossmont College in the Hardball Classic.
SAC scored its first run early in the bottom of the first inning when Andy Navarrette (Mater Dei HS) reached base on a walk and later scored when Nick Tanos (Cypress HS) grounded into a double play.
The Dons added another six runs in the bottom of the second inning including a two-run double by Mario Ramirez (Brea Olinda HS) and RBI singles by Casey Rihn (La Habra HS), Manny Caceres (Santa Ana Valley HS), Travis Leverson (Chaparral HS) and Tanos.
Rihn scored again in the third inning when he stole home when Caceres was picked off at first base. Caceres later hit a two-run double in the fifth inning followed by a two-run home run by Navarrette.
The Dons scored their final runs in the seventh inning when Michael Gerber (Canyon Springs HS) walked to force in a run and Stephen Gonzalez (Foothill HS) hit a two-run single. Grossmont scored its only run of the game in the top of the seventh inning on a single to right field.
Yuichiro Fujiwara (Japan Aviation Academy) pitched eight innings allowing one run on four hits while striking out 10 batters. The victory improved his overall record to 6-2
