Santa Ana Scores 12 Unanswered to Defeat Fullerton

SANTA ANA, CA - Despite giving up three runs in the top of the first inning, Santa Ana College (SAC) fought back and scored 12 unanswered points to defeat Fullerton College (FCC) 12-3 in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game.

Mitch Levier led the game off for FCC with a walk and later scored on a sacrifice fly. Andrew Velarde, who reached on a double, scored when Anthony Aguilera hit a single to right center. Aguilera scored the Hornets third and final run when Ryan Thompson singled to center field.

The Dons got on the board in the bottom of the third inning. Travis Leverson (Chaparral HS) hit a double to left center and scored on the next play when Andy Navarrette (Mater Dei HS) reached on a fielding error. Navarrette later scored when Crispin Tarango (Diamond Bar HS) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to pull the Dons within one at 3-2.

SAC took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with a four-run offensive surge. Nick Tanos (Cypress HS), Tyler Hogan (Servite HS), Daniel Voorheis (Cypress HS) and Casey Rihn (La Habra HS) each had a RBI in the inning.

The Dons followed this inning with a six-run inning in the bottom of the sixth inning with Tarango and Rihn each getting two RBIs in the inning. Manny Caceres (Santa Ana Valley HS) and Voorheis had the other two RBIs in the inning.

After allowing three hits and three runs in the first inning, Matt Dufour (El Dorado HS) pitched a complete game allowing only one more hit and retiring 15 straight batters to end the game and improve his overall record to 5-3.
