Santa Ana Finishes Strong to Defeat Golden West

SANTA ANA, CA - After a slow start and a few lead changes, Santa Ana College's (SAC) offense came alive late to give the Dons an 11-6 victory over Golden West College (GWC) in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game.

GWC scored first in the top of the first inning when lead-off batter Jeff Roth doubled to right center and later scored when Kyle Cruikshank doubled to left field. The Rustlers extended their lead to 2-0 in the top of the second inning when Cole Hockenberry singled to left field scoring Justin Wheeler.

The Dons answered in the bottom of the third inning when Nick Tanos (Cypress HS) hit a two-run home run to tie the game at 2-2. SAC took the lead in the next inning when Manny Caceres (Santa Ana Valley HS) doubled down the left field line allowing Tyler Hogan (Servite HS) to score.

Mario Ramirez (Brea Olinda HS) hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning which scored Travis Leverson (Chaparral HS) putting the Dons up 4-2. GWC answered in the sixth inning with a four run inning to retake the lead at 6-4.

SAC tied the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the sixth with two solo home runs by Hogan and Casey Rihn (La Habra HS). Crispin Tarango gave the Dons the lead for good when his single to center field scored Leverson. The Dons added four more runs in the eighth inning including a two-run single by Tanos.

The win improves the Dons to 18-8 overall and pushes their conference record to 8-1 while the Rustlers fall to 13-12 overall and 3-6 in conference play.
