SAC Wins Sixth Straight Game; Defeats Cypress

SANTA ANA, CA - The Santa Ana College (SAC) baseball team won its sixth straight game and improves to 5-0 in Orange Empire Conference play after defeating Cypress College 14-4 Saturday.

Cypress opened the game with two straight base hits and lead off hitter Grant Rachlin was able to score on a fielding error to give the Chargers an early 1-0 lead. SAC answered in the bottom of the second inning when Manny Caceres (Santa Ana Valley HS) singled in Crispin Tarango (Diamond Bar HS) to tie the game at 1-1.

Caceres got two more RBIs in the bottom of the third inning when the Dons scored four more runs to take a 5-1 lead. SAC added another three runs in the fifth inning with Caceres getting two RBIs and Andy Navarrette (Mater Dei HS) getting the third.

Cypress scored two runs in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 8-3. The Dons answered in the bottom half of the inning with a five run inning. Mario Ramirez (Brea Olinda HS) led the inning off with a solo home run followed later in the inning by a two-run double by Caceres. Travis Leverson (Chaparral HS) capped the inning off with a two-run single to put the Dons up 13-3.

Daniel Voorheis (Cypress HS) hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Ramirez for the Dons final score of the game in the seventh inning. Cypress hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning bringing the final score to 14-4.

Yuichiro Fujiwara (Japan Aviation Academy) pitched seven innings, spreading out eight hits to pick up the win for the Dons while improving to 4-2 on the season.
