Santa Ana Loses in the Ninth Inning to Grossmont
SANTA ANA, CA -
Santa Ana College (SAC) went in to the top of the ninth inning with a 4-2 lead but gave up three runs to lose 5-4 to visiting Grossmont College in a non-conference baseball game.
The Dons held the lead from the first inning when Travis Leverson (Chaparral HS) scored on a sacrifice fly by Crispin Tarango (Diamond Bar HS). SAC extended its lead in the third inning with Daniel Lewis (West Covina HS) singling in Tarango and Casey Rihn (La Habra HS) doubling in Daniel Voorheis (Cypress HS) to put the Dons up 3-0.
After Grossmont cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the sixth inning, Rihn hit a solo home run in the bottom half of the sixth to push the Dons lead to two. Grossmont then came up to the plate in the top of the ninth inning and scored three runs to take the win at 5-4.
Eric Cendejas suffered the loss for the Dons giving up two hits and allowing the game winning run. The Dons fall to 8-7 with one game left before they open Orange Empire Conference play against Golden West College next Thursday.
