Medlen Drafted by Braves, Bolsenbroek Drafted by White Sox and Bromberg Signs with Twins
SANTA ANA, CA – Santa Ana College's shortstop and closing pitcher Kris Medlen was taken in the tenth round of the Major League Baseball First Time Draft by the Atlanta Braves with the 310th overall pick.
Medlen finished the season with a .332 batting average with 10 homeruns and 42 RBIs. He also set a school record with 16 saves while going 5-2 as a relief pitcher with a 2.23 ERA.
Medlen started each game for the Dons at shortstop and was often called in as a relief pitcher. In many games, Medlen would have the game winning hit as well as picking up the save as the Dons' closer. Pitcher Mike Bolsenbroek was selected with the 1, 245th overall pick by the Chicago White Sox in the 41st round.
Bolsenbroek pitched in 13 games for the Dons posting a 2-1 record as a relief pitcher. He had a 3.94 ERA with 27 strikeouts to only 7 walks.
David Bromberg was originally drafted out of high school by the Minnesota Twins but chose to play at SAC. The Twins still held the rights to sign him before the start of this year's draft, otherwise he would be re-entered into the draft. He signed shortly after the completion of the Dons season with the Twins.
Bromberg started seven games for the Dons this season posting a 3-2 overall record. He had 36 strikeouts to only 14 walks in 40 innings pitched with a 4.28 ERA.
All three players played helped contribute to the Dons 35-15 overall record while making it to the final game of the Southern California regional Playoffs. |
