SANTA ANA, CA – Santa Ana College advanced to the finals of the second round Southern California Regional playoffs as they defeated Cypress College 9-3 on Saturday.  The Dons will play Cypress again for a chance to go to Fresno for the state championships.

The Dons struck first in the top of the second inning when Chad Laughery (2-for-2) hit a sacrifice fly to score Nick Tanos (2-for-4) who reached on a single up the middle of the infield.  Cypress answered in the bottom of the inning when Matt Miller (2-for-3) doubled in Blaine Wilson.

Andy Navarrette led off the third inning with a single to the shortstop and started a four run inning for the Dons.  After Kris Medlen singled with a bunt, Nick Mahin reached on a fielding error, scoring Navarrette.  Both Medlen and Mahin scored when Wes Pascolla (2-for-4) hit a single up the left side and later scored the final score of the inning on a passed ball.

Cypress was able to add a run in the bottom half of the inning when Mike Vass (4-for-5) hit a solo home run off of Dons' starting pitcher Tom Calahan (6-4).  The Chargers added one more run in the fifth inning but were unable to score again.  Laughery extended the Dons' lead in the seventh when he hit a three-run home run.  Manny Caceres added a solo home run in the eighth for the final run of the game.
