Santa Ana Uses Three Comebacks to Defeat Golden West

SANTA ANA, CA – Santa Ana College (SAC) came from behind three separate times to defeat Golden West College (GWC) Thursday 14-13 in eleven innings in the Dons second of three OEC mini tournament games.

The Rustlers took a 4-0 lead off Dons starter David Bromberg in the top of the third inning with three RBIs coming from Jeff Roth and the other by Kyle Cruikshank.  The Dons added two of their own in the bottom of the third with an RBI each by Jason Jordan and Wes Pascolla.

GWC had a 7-4 lead going into the bottom of the fifth before Kris Medlen hit a grand slam to put the Dons ahead 8-7.  The Dons were able to add two more to take a 10-7 lead in the game.

With the lead cut to 10-8, Medlen came in to pitch in the top of the eighth inning for the Dons.  He held the Rustlers scoreless until the top of the ninth when Johnny Jimenez reached on a fielder's choice scoring Cruikshank.  Adam Rodriguez came up next and grounded out to second base, however the Rustlers were able to tie the game on the play.

The two teams traded a scoreless tenth inning before the Rustlers scored two in the top of the eleventh to go ahead 13-11.  Brian Ward scored on a throwing error Aric Weinberg singled in Rodriguez.

Andy Navarrette lead of the Dons half of the inning with a single followed by a walk by Medlen.  Mahin doubled in Navarrette to pull the Dons within one run.  After Nick Tanos was intentionally walked to load the bases, Pascolla drew a walk to bring in the tying run.  Ben Linn came in as a pinch hitter and struck a ball into center field, allowing Mahin to come in for the game-winning run.

Tony Perez pitched 2/3 of an inning to pick up the win for the Dons while Kyle Brown suffered the loss, going one inning while allowing three runs.
