Santa Ana Gets Second Home Victory in a Row

SANTA ANA, CA – Santa Ana College (SAC) went 2-1 in three straight games against Irvine Valley College (IVC) with both wins coming at home as they easily defeated the Lasers 12-4 on Tuesday in the first game of the Orange Empire Conference mini tournament.

The Lasers (17-24, 7-14) struck first when Brice Vazac (2-for-4) hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning.  The Dons answered in the bottom of the inning after Andy Navarette started the inning by drawing a walk, he later scored on a sacrifice fly by Nick Tanos.

The Dons (30-12, 14-8) led 2-1 going into the bottom of the third when Nick Mahin (1-for-3) hit a solo home run to start a five-run inning by the Dons.  Chad Laughery (2-for-3) added two of the runs when he doubled to centerfield and Matt Allen (1-for-4) hit a two-run home run to cap off the scoring run.

SAC had another five-run inning in the bottom of the sixth.  Manny Caceres led the inning off with a single down the left field line.  He scored when Navarrette reached on a throwing error by IVC's third baseman.  After the Lasers intentionally walked Mahin, Tanos (3-for-4, 4 RBI)  hit the first ball he saw out of the park for a three-run home run.

Paul Canedo (6-1) pitched 5 2/3 innings for the Dons while picking up the win.  He gave up six hits and four runs with one walk and three strikeouts.

Jeremiah Curran (3-3) lasted only 2 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits on his way to the loss.  He had two walks and two strikeouts.
