Mahin Knocks in Six Runs in Santa Ana Victory
SANTA ANA, CA – Nick Mahin (4-for-5, 6 RBI) opened the scoring for Santa Ana College (SAC) with a solo home run in the bottom of the first in a one-sided affair against Irvine Valley College (IVC) on Thursday.
The Dons added another five runs in the bottom of the second with RBIs coming from Matt Allen (2-for-5); Manny Caceres; Andy Navarette and Mahin.
The Lasers scored in the top of the fourth when Brice Vazac (3-for-4) doubled in Geoff Rothman. Evan Domanic (1-for-3) hit a solo home run in the fifth to bring the Lasers within four. In the bottom half of the fifth, Wes Pascolla (2-for-4) hit a solo home run for the Dons to extend the lead back to five.
IVC cut the lead to 8-4 going into the bottom of the ninth before Kris Medlen (4-for-5) singled to load the bases, setting up Mahin. Mahin drove in four more runs with a grand slam home run as the Dons scored six in the eighth for a final score of 14-4.
David Bromberg (3-1) picked up the win for the Dons pitching 5 1/3 innings with three hits. Bromberg walked four batters with no strikeouts.
Kirk Barnard (0-3) pitched only two innings for the Lasers as he gave up six runs on seven hits getting the loss. He had one strikeout and no walks.
