Mahin Delivers Winning Blow In Eighth;
Medlin Ties Heath Bell's Save Mark

SANTA ANA , CA – For the second consecutive game Nick Mahin
(2-for-4, 4 RBI) delivered the game-winning hit as Santa Ana College (SAC)
handed visiting Grossmont College (GC) its third straight loss, 6-4, in non-conference baseball action, Wednesday. Mahin tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run single to left then broke the deadlock with a two-out, two-run home run off Eddie Pryor in the bottom of the eighth.

Despite giving up two hits in the top of the ninth, Dons' reliever Kris Medlen preserved the win when he induced Grossmont's Matt Powell to line out to left. With the save, his 14th on the year, Medlen tied former Santa Ana and current New York Mets' reliever Heath Bell for the most saves in school history.

Mike Bolsenbroek (2-1) picked up the win in relief of Dons' starter Tom Calahan. Bolsenbroek gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out one. Calahan pitched the first five innings for the Dons allowing just two runs on eight hits while striking out three and walking one.

Offensively, the Dons were led by Manny Caceres (3-for-3) and Mahin who combined for five of the team's six hits.

Grossmont, who out hit the Dons, 14-6, fell victim to three double plays turned by Santa Ana. Zach Barger was 4-for-5 with 2 RBI while Powell finished 3-for-5 with an RBI for the Griffins. Louie Russo (3-for-4) also collected three hits in the loss.

Pryor (0-4) suffered the loss giving up two runs on three hits in three innings of work. John Lowe limited the Dons to just two hits over the first four innings before surrendering four runs on two hits and three walks in the fifth. He struckout five.
