Medlin, Mahin hit back-to-back homeruns in sixth
as SAC defeats Los Angeles Valley College 11-7

SANTA ANA , CA – Nick Mahin (3-for-5, 3 RBI) hit a solo homerun in the top of the sixth inning to give Santa Ana College (SAC) the lead for good as they defeated Los Angeles Valley College (LAV) 11-7 in non-conference baseball play.

Julian Gestewitz (3-for-5, 4 RBI) lead the game off with a solo homerun, the first of his two, giving LAV an early 1-0 lead.  The Dons answered back in the top of the second with a double by Patrick Murray (2-for-4, 1 RBI) followed by a single by Mario Ramirez.  Chad Laughery hit a sacrifice fly to bring Murray home for the first Dons run followed by a double down the left-field line by Brett Siegmund scoring Manny Caceres who pinch ran for Ramirez.

The Monarchs took a 7-5 lead into the top of the sixth before Siegmund hit a single to left field.  With two outs in the inning Kris Medlen (1-for-5, 2 RBI) hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at 7-7.  Mahin hit his solo homerun on the very next pitch to give SAC the lead for good.

The Monarchs were unable to score again while the Dons added three runs in the eighth to end the game with a final of 11-7.  Matt Dufour (7-0) picked up the win after coming in for Paul Canedo in the sixth inning.  Dufour gave up only two hits while striking out two, walking none and allowing one run in 2 1/3 innings.  Bobby Phillips got the loss for the Monarchs giving up eight runs, five earned, on 13 hits in 5 2/3 innings.
