Bromberg Stymies Ventura Bats In Dons' 9-2 Win

SANTA ANA, CA – David Bromberg allowed just two runs on just six hits over eight innings as Santa Ana College (23-9) snapped a two-game losing streak with a 9-2 non-conference win over visiting Ventura College (17-16), Monday. The freshman right hander, who was making just his third start of the season, improved to 2-1 while striking out eight and walking none.

Nick Tanos (2 for 4, 3 RBI) and Mario Ramirez (2 for 4, 3 RBI) keyed the Dons offense with two hits and three RBI apiece. Tanos drove in the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning and gave Santa Ana a 7-2 lead in the bottom of sixth when he hit a two-run home run to left, his third of the season. Ramirez, meanwhile, took advantage of just his fourth start of the season at catcher when he capped the Dons' four-run first with a two-run double to center. He drove in his third run of the game when he plated Patrick Murray with a single in the third.

The Dons' five runs in the first three innings was more than enough for Bromberg who retired 12-straight Pirates at one point. Kyle Smart pitched a scoreless ninth for Santa Ana striking out three of the four batters he faced.

Andy Navarette (2 for 2, RBI) and Jason Jordan (2 for 2) also had two hits apiece for the Dons.

William Swanson (2 for 4) and Tino Estranda (2 for 4) led the Ventura offense combining for four of the Pirates hits. Justin De Fratus (4-3) suffered the loss for Ventura allowing five runs (two earned) on seven hits while striking out three and walking three.
