Dons Let Chance To Gain Ground Slip Away
SANTA ANA, CA – With a chance to cut into Cypress College's two-game lead in the Orange Empire Conference baseball title chase, Santa Ana College instead fell three games back with a 13-5 loss to the Chargers, Wednesday.
Cypress scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back as the Chargers out hit the Dons, 18-9.
Paul Canedo (4-1), who was one of four Dons' pitchers used in the game, suffered his first loss of the season allowing seven runs (five earned) on nine hits in just four innings while striking out.
Offensively, Kris Medlen (2 for 5, RBI) and Patrick Murray (2 for 4, RBI) each collected two hits apiece for the Dons while Ben Linn (1 for 1, 3 RBI) hit a pinch-hit three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth.
David Stokes (5-2) picked up the win for the Chargers allowing just two runs on five hits over seven innings while striking out three and walking one.
Four Chargers recorded multiple-hit games on Wednesday led by Garrett Green (4 for 5, 3 RBI) and Taylor Green (3 for 5, 2 RBI) who combined for seven of Cypress 18 hits including.
The Dons will try and bounce back on Thursday (April 6) when they travel to Cypress to face the Chargers for the second time in as many days. Santa Ana won the first meeting between the two teams, 11-8, back on March 9.
