Calahan, Tanos Lead Dons To Fourth Straight Win

SANTA ANA, CA– Tom Calahan gave up just one run on four hits over seven innings to improve to 4-2 while Nick Tanos went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI as Santa Ana College (20-6, 8-2) won its fourth in a row with a 4-1 decision over visting Golden West College (16-12, 3-7) in Orange Empire Conference (OEC) baseball, Saturday.

Tanos broke a 1-1 tie when singled home Nick Mahin in the bottom of the fourth inning and added two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth with a two-run home run to left off the Rustlers' Kyle Brown (2-4) who suffered the loss. Mahin (1 for 4), Manny Caceres (1 for 3, RBI) and Wes Pascolla each added hit for the Dons.

Calahan worked his way out of the couple early jams as the Dons defense turned three double plays behind the sophomore left hander. He struck out four and walked four before being lifted in the eighth inning for Matt Dufour who gave up one hit and a walk in the only scoreless inning he pitched. Kris Medlen picked up his team-high 11th save of the year despite giving up no runs on three hits in the ninth inning.

Brian Ward (2 for 4) and Garrett Boyd (2 for 4) each had two hits apiece for Golden West while Jeff Roth (1 for 2, RBI) drove in the Rustlers' only run in the third inning.

Prior to the game, Santa Ana College President and members of the Rancho Santiago Community College District (RSCCD) Board of Trustees and administration honored Dons' head coach Don Sneddon for becoming California community college's all-time winningest baseball coach last Tuesday (March 21). Following Saturday's win, Sneddon's overall record now stands at 834-286-3 (.744) and counting.
