Santa Ana Completes Sweep Of Riverside, 3-2

RIVERSIDE, CA– Nick Tano's two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted Santa Ana College (19-6, 7-2) to a 3-2 win over visiting Riverside College (18-8, 4-5) in Orange Empire Conference baseball, Thursday. Kris Medlen picked up this 10th save of the season when he induced Matt Norris to ground into a 6-4-3 game-ending double play as the Dons completed a three-game sweep of the Tigers.

Medlen gave the Dons a 1-0 lead with an RBI-bunt single that scored Manny Caceres who tripled to center in the fifth inning before Riverside bounced back in the top of the sixth with two runs of their own. Thomas Neal (1 for 4, RBI) tied the game with a sacrifice fly to right and Ryan Selden (1 for 4) gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead with a RBI-groundout.

The Dons struggled against Riverside starter Tommy Hanson who allowed just one run on just five hits while striking out 10 and walking four. Hanson, earned a no decision, after Andrew Bovich (3-2) gave up back-to-back hits to Patrick Murray and Wes Pascolla to lead off the Dons' eighth. Anthony Carrillo attempted to rescue Bovich and pick up the save but gave up Tano's two-run single after getting Brett Siegmund to pop out for the inning's first out.

Matt Dufour (4-0) picked up the win for the Dons in relief of Santa Ana starter Daniel Manos. Manos gave up two runs on four hits while striking out four and walking just one. Dufour pitched three scoreless innings scattering just two hits before Medlen came on in the ninth to close out the game despite allowing two hits.

On Saturday, March 25, the Santa Ana College (SAC) President Dr. Erlinda Martinez, the SAC Department of Exercise Science, Health & Athletics and members of the Rancho Santiago Community College (RSCCD) Board of Trustees and administration will honor Dons' baseball coach Don Sneddon during a pre-game ceremony for becoming California community college's all-time baseball coaching wins leader. On Tuesday (March 21), Sneddon moved into first place on the career wins list following Santa Ana's 2-1 win over Riverside Community College (RCC). The ceremony is schedule for 11:45 a.m. just prior to the start of the Dons' Orange Empire Conference (OEC) baseball game against Golden West College at noon.
