Medlin, Siegmund Deliver In Santa Ana's 7-6 Win

SANTA ANA, CA - Kris Medlen drove in Manny Caceres in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 6-6 tie then retired the side in the top of the ninth inning to pick up the win as Santa Ana College (13-5, 2-1) downed Saddleback College (13-3, 1-2), 7-6, in Orange Empire Conference baseball action, Tuesday.

Medlen, who finished 2 for 5 at the plate with an RBI, improved to 3-0 on the mound striking out four of the six batters he faced.

Brett Siegmund and Nick Tanos kept the Dons in the ball game early as Siegmund, who was 2 for 4 with 4 RBI, belted a pair of two-run home runs in the fourth and sixth innings to tie the game at 2-2 and 4-4. Tanos meanwhile went 4 for 5 at the plate and scored twice.

Matt Spotanski (2 for 4), Sean Rooney (2 for 3, 1 RBI) and Steven Huff (2 for 4, RBI) each had two hits apiece for Saddleback.

Armando Carrasco (0-1) suffered the loss giving up one run on six hits in 1.1 innings of work. He struckout two and walked none in his first appearance of the season.

With the win Santa Ana head coach Don Sneddon moved to within five wins of passing former Sacramento City College head coach Jerry Weinstein on the all-time California community college baseball coaches win list. To date, Sneddon has compiled an overall record of 827-285-3 (.743) in 25 seasons, all at Santa Ana College. Weinstein, who is currently in his fifth year as an assistant coach at California Polytechnic, San Luis Obispo, capped a banner California community college career with an 831-208-12 record in 23 seasons at Sacramento City College.
