Four SAC Student-Athletes Received Scholarships
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA - For the fourth year in a row, the Santa Ana College Athletic Hall of Fame awarded four $1,500 scholarships to transferring student-athletes. This year's scholarship recipients included Corey Brown (cross country/track and field), Lisa Hawich (basketball/tennis), Jenna Natalizio (water polo/swimming) and Casey Rihn (baseball).The students were on hand to accept this recognition during the 2008 Ed Arnold Golf Classic awards dinner. This fundraiser for the Santa Ana College Athletic Hall of Fame was held at SeaCliff Country Club in Huntington Beach on May 19.
Corey Brown was a member of the men's cross country and track and field teams in his two years at Santa Ana College. At the 2008 Orange Empire Conference Track and Field Championships, Brown finished in second place in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 33:34.26. Brown also helped the Dons cross country squad to a 13th place finish at the 2007 Southern California Community College Cross Country Championships. He finished second on the team overall as Santa Ana qualified to run in the California State Cross Country Championships. In the state championship race, Brown finished in 36 th place as the Santa Ana College men's cross country team finished in 15 th place overall
Lisa Hawich played both tennis and basketball during her two years at Santa Ana College. During the 2008 season, she qualified for the Southern California Regional Tennis Championships after making it to the quarterfinals of the Orange Empire Conference Championships. Lisa later went on to play in the Women's Tennis State Championships. She also played in a total of 47 games for the Santa Ana College women's basketball team the past two seasons. Lisa studied film while attending Santa Ana College.
Jenna Natalizio was a member of the women's water polo and swimming team the past two seasons at Santa Ana College. During the 2007 season, Jenna was named to the All-Southern California and All-America water polo teams. Natalizio was also named to the All-Orange Empire Conference First Team for her efforts. Jenna scored a total of 19 goals in the 2007 Orange Empire Conference Women's Water Polo Championships. In the final game of the conference tournament, she led the Dons with four goals in an 11-6 loss to Riverside Community College. Natalizio was also the Orange Empire Conference champion in the 100 meter backstroke and state runner-up in 2007.
Casey Rihn has been the starting shortstop on the Santa Ana College baseball team the past two seasons and played a large part in leading the Dons to back-to-back Orange Empire Conference Championships. In his freshman season, Casey was named First-Team All-Orange Empire Conference as he finished with a.368 batting average and led the team with 18 doubles. He was also third on the team with 47 RBIs, hit four triples and finished tied for second on the team with eight home runs. In 2008, Casey hit .332 with 15 doubles, eight home runs and 43 RBIs. He also swiped 11 bases in 13 attempts in during the season. Rihn is majoring in business and has signed to play baseball at the University of South Carolina.
