EAGC Held in Beautiful Conditions at SeaCliff CC
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA - The Santa Ana College Athletic Hall of Fame, an affiliate of the Santa Ana College Foundation, hosted the 2008 Ed Arnold Golf Classic at the SeaCliff Country Club in Huntington Beach on Monday, May 19, 2008. This was the third year the golf tournament was held at SeaCliff Country Club.
The event hosted 144 golfers this year including former Los Angeles Rams quarterback Vince Ferragamo, Orange Country Register columnist Randy Youngman and Santa Ana College Athletic Hall of Fame members Ray Carasco and Keith Luhnow. During the dinner festivities, there was a full live and silent auction and the introduction of the 2008 Santa Ana College Athletic Hall of Fame induction class as well as the recipients of the $1,500 student-athlete scholarships.
The 2008 induction class consisted of four former Santa Ana College athletes. The inductees are Dave Alexander (wrestling), Fred Kuller (track and field) Joyce Lyman (softball) and Lester 'Bus' McKnight (football). These individuals will be inducted into the hall of fame on Sunday, October 5 at Santa Ana College.
The four student-athlete scholarship winners included Corey Brown (cross country/track and field), Lisa Hawich (tennis/basketball), Jenna Natalizio (water polo/swimming) and Casey Rihn (baseball).
In 2003, the Santa Ana College Athletic Hall of Fame Golf Classic, was renamed the Ed Arnold Golf Classic in honor of Santa Ana College Hall of Fame member (1980) and Orange and Los Angeles Counties broadcasting legend Ed Arnold. Following his tour of duty with the United States Marine Corp, in 1966, Arnold graduated from Santa Ana College where he earned an associate of arts degree in business and played football for the Dons before transferring to California State University, Long Beach to earn his bachelor's degree in broadcasting.
The tournament was a four-person, team-scramble format with awards being presented to flight champions and winners of the closest-to-the pin, longest drive and putting contests.
Proceeds from the tournament will support the continued development of the Santa Ana College Athletic Hall of Fame and provide scholarships to transferring Santa Ana College student-athletes. The Santa Ana College Athletic Hall of Fame honors former student-athletes, coaches and special contributors who have distinguished themselves throughout the 92-year history of the college.
