Santa Ana College Athletic Hall of Fame Announces 2006 Student-Athlete Scholarship Recipients
SANTA ANA, CA - For the second year in a row, the Santa Ana College Athletic Hall of Fame awarded four $1,500 scholarships to transferring student-athletes. This year's student-athlete scholarship recipients included Brandt Bangs (basketball), Josh Harvey (soccer), Allison Taylor (track and field) and Alissa Zoelle (softball). The students were on hand to accept this recognition during the 2006 Ed Arnold Golf Classic awards dinner. This fundraiser for the Santa Ana College Athletic Hall of Fame was held at SeaCliff Country Club in Huntington Beach , CA , on May 22.
“The Santa College Athletic Department is extremely proud of the success of our student-athletes,” said Avie Bridges, athletic director, Santa Ana College . “These individuals have been selected because of their academic and athletic achievements and have made great contributions to the department and their community.”
Brandt Bangs was a member of the Santa Ana College men's basketball team for the last two years. As a sophomore, Bangs averaged 13 points a game during conference play and made 52% of his three-point field goals. He recorded the team's second highest point total on the season with 31 points against Cypress College (Jan 25). In the same game, he made eight three-point field goals, one shy of the school record. Ban gs will be transferring to Chapman University next year where he plans to study marketing.
Josh Harvey was a member of the back-to-back state championship soccer teams at Santa Ana College and was also on the 2004 National Championship team his freshman year. In his sophomore season, the men's soccer program was runner-up for the national championship. Harvey recently signed a national letter of intent to attend and play soccer at Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont , CA . Harvey plans on studying business while playing soccer for the Argonauts.
Allison Taylor has been a member of the Santa Ana College women's track and field team and was a member of the 4x400 relay team who made it to the state championships. Taylor , with the rest of the team, qualified for the championships by finishing third with an overall time of 4:04.10. Taylor also competes in the long jump, nearly qualifying for the state championships in that event as well. Taylor will be transferring to the University of Oregon , but has yet to declare a major.
Alissa Zoelle led the Santa Ana College softball team with three home runs and 27 RBIs this season as the Dons made it to the Southern California Regional Championships. Zoelle had a .325 batting average while starting 43 of the 44 games she played in. As a freshman, she had a .408 batting average with 17 RBIs in 34 games, all of which she started. Zoelle, who is still deciding on a college, plans on studying early childhood education. |
