Nancy Warren
Coach, Class of 2005

For nearly 40 years, Nancy Warren has been instrumental in the development of the exercise science department and the women's athletic program at Santa Ana College. Since first coming to the college in 1966, Warren has held such positions as physical education instructor, coordinator of physical education, interim dean of physical education, women's softball coach, women's basketball coach and women's volleyball coach. She is the only person in Santa Ana College history to be named the first head coach of three different sports.

While teaching her full curriculum, Warren served as the women's basketball and softball coach for eight years (1966-1975) and the women's volleyball coach for 20 years (1966-1986). During that time she guided the Dons to third place in the Southern California Basketball Championships and a first place finish in the Southern California Basketball Championships.

In her 21 years of coaching, Warren enjoyed the most success as the women's volleyball coach where her teams won two state titles, a regional title and a national title. Santa Ana College won back-to-back state titles in 1976 and 1977, the second of which was the first official state women's volleyball title sanctioned by the California Community Colleges Commission on Athletics. That year her team finished the season with an incredible 49-0 overall record. In March 1977, Warren was recognized by her peers by being named the first-ever Community College Volleyball Coach of the Year. In 1995, Warren received the state's highest award when she was inducted into the Commission on Athletics' Hall of Fame for volleyball.

Prior to working at Santa Ana College, Warren graduated from Glendora High School where she played softball, volleyball and basketball before attending California State University, Los Angeles where she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in physical education.

Warren and her husband, Keith, reside in Rancho Carrillo, California and are the parents of two daughters, Amy and Jenny.
