Frank Gonzales
Wrestling, Class of 2004

For two years, Frank Gonzales dominated the California community college wrestling scene at 134 pounds while competing for Santa Ana College in 1973-74 and 1974-75.

Gonzales, who was a two-time state champion at 134, led the Dons to a share of the South Coast Conference title his sophomore season. He also earned All-American honors as a freshman and sophomore at Santa Ana College and was named the college’s athlete of the year in 1974.

In 1975, Gonzales transferred to UCLA where he continued his winning ways by capturing the 134 title at the PAC-8 Championships. The former Don would conclude his collegiate wrestling career by winning the NCAA Division II National Championship at 134 pounds while wrestling for the University of Nebraska-Omaha (UNO). He also garnered All-American honors while at UNO.

Gonzales received his bachelor’s degree from Mid America Nazarene College in 1989 and is currently the head wrestling coach at Wyandotte High School located in Kansas City, Kansas.
