John Fouch
Football, Class of 2005

In his only season at Santa Ana College running back John T,ouch became one of the most feared football players in southern California.
Fouch led the 1948 Dons to a 10-1 record and the ninth Eastern Conference title under legendary head coach Bill Cook.

That year, the former Santa Ana High School-star rushed for 1,317 yards and 17 touchdowns and passed for 438 yards, finishing just five yards short of a mile in total offense as a freshman. At the time he established a new school record with 263 yards of total offense in a
14-6 win over Mt. San Antonio in which he rushed 24 times for 240 yards, scored on a 74­yard run and passed for 23 yards. Against Chaffey College, he scored the Dons' only touchdown in a 7-6 win and against rival-Fullerton College scored all three of the team's touchdowns in a 22-6 victory.

Following the season he earned first team all-Eastern Conference honors and was named the Eastern Conference player of the year. Fouch was also recognized on the national scene earning second team all-American honors behind first team honorees Ollie Matson and Hugh McIlhenny.

In 1949, the former Don of the Year transferred to the University of Southern California (USC) where he shared the backfield with Frank Gifford, who is now a member of the National Football League (NFL) Hall of Fame.

Following his playing days at USC, Fouch started working for a distributing company a position he held for two years before accepting a position with Bohemian Distributing, the company he retired from in 1992. He also spent 10 years officiating football in the Pacific Coast Conference and 16 in the National Football League (NFL).

Fouch and his wife of 53 years, Carol, are both retired and have three children, Mike, Sandra and John.
