Al Carmichael
Track & Field, Class of 2003

Al Carmichael was once called "one of the most significant players of his era" by Hank Ives, founder of the JC Gridwire. Carmichael played football at Santa Ana College in 1949 leading the Dons to a 10-1 record, scored 19 touchdowns and appeared in the Junior Rose Bowl. He is a member of the National JC Hall of Fame. Carmichael played professional football for the Green Bay Packers and the Denver Broncos.

Of his most memorable moments at SAC, Carmichael recalls, "We wre trailing Mt. SAC about half way through the 1949 season by 20 points at halftime and the students started chanting, 'There goes the Rose Bowl. There goes the Rose Bowl.' It kind of got us riled up. We had a great pitch play in our offense and in the second half I scored five touchdowns and we won. We went on to the Junior Rose Bowl.
